Our Favorite Spring Herb... Nettles!

April 20, 2008

Stinging nettleThe western herb Stinging Nettle has so many applications that we recommend it year round. But its ability to transform phlegm and strengthen the lungs makes it especially helpful to arrest spring allergies. The fact that it is also high in chlorophyll makes it a perfect blood cleanser and supportive uterine tonic.

It is safe and highly beneficial for pregnant women or women trying to conceive. The green richness of Nettles makes a tasty tea or infusion. The fresh leaves (available only at certain farmers' markets) are delicious steamed or sautéed. And for those of us pressed for time, Nettles is easy to find in capsule form. A recommended dose for allergies: 2 capsules two or three times per day, as needed.
