What to Expect from Acupuncture
Does acupuncture hurt?
Many women compare the sensation of needle insertion to the plucking of their eyebrows. There is minimal pain, if any. The sensation felt after the needles are in can be described as a "wave-like" or "pulsing" feeling, which reflects the movement of energy through the acupuncture points to promote health.
During the acupuncture treatment...
In response to the needles, acupuncture patients typically experience a light," floating" sensation, as endorphins (feel-good hormones) flood the body, and are released into the bloodstream. The effect of the treatment is very balancing and stabilizing, resulting in a calmer, more peaceful state of mind.
How long is each treatment?
Acupuncture treatments usually last one hour and include consultation time at each appointment to evaluate progress and patient concerns.
How many acupuncture treatments will I need?
The course of treatment varies for each patient. Weekly visits are most frequently recommended, and are based on the patient's individual goals.
